France's Elengy says Montoir LNG terminal fully booked 2023-2035
French liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal operator Elengy said its Montoir-de-Bretagne terminal in western France was fully booked between 2023 and 2035, with only a little capacity available in 2021 and 2022.
Elengy, a subsidiary of energy group Engie, said it had offered around 3.5 billion cubic meters (bcm) per year of not yet subscribed capacity between July and November and it was all taken up.
“As a result ... the Montoir-de-Bretagne terminal is now fully booked between 2023 and 2035,” the company said.
“This result reflects the dynamism of the LNG market, as well as the appetite for regasification capacity in France, gateway to North-West Europe gas markets,” it said.
Elengy added that, in order to meet market expectations, it would study options for offering capacity at the Fos Cavaou LNG terminal near the southern city of Marseille beyond 2030, and at Montoir-de-Bretagne beyond 2035.
It said the two sites offered direct and attractive access to European markets, with strategic positions on the Mediterranean and Atlantic coasts, making them competitive LNG hubs for reloading, transhipment, bunkering and truck loading.
French gas network operators said last week that LNG flows through the French gas network had doubled in the past year as its strategic position and improved infrastructure makes it an attractive destination for LNG. (Reporting by Bate Felix; Editing by Mark Potter)
