Russia's Sakhalin-2 suspends LNG exports during maintenance

The Asia-oriented Sakhalin 2 plant suspended liquefied natural gas output and exports with effect from June 17, due to planned maintenance, according to LSEG ship-tracking data.

The maintenance should be completed by the end of June or in early July, the data showed.

Russian state gas company Gazprom is a controlling shareholder in the Sakhalin-2 oil and gas project, in which Japanese trading houses Mitsui and Mitsubishi also hold stakes.

Japan acquired 58% of liquefied natural gas supplies from the Sakhalin-2 plant in 2025 and also bought oil from the project for the first time since 2022, according to the project's operator, Sakhalinskaya Energia.

In 2025, the project exported around 10.3 million metric tons of the supercooled gas. Around 17.5% went to South Korea.
