DTEK, Baker Hughes sign MoU to develop Ukraine's gas production and strengthen energy security
DTEK Oil&Gas, the largest private gas production company in Ukraine, part of DTEK Group, has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Baker Hughes, an energy technology company. The memorandum outlines cooperation aimed at increasing gas production in Ukraine and strengthening the country’s energy security.
Ukraine holds approximately 1.1 Tm3 of proven natural gas reserves, making it the second-largest reserve holder in Europe. A new collaboration between Baker Hughes and DTEK aims to accelerate the development of these resources by combining advanced energy technologies with deep local operational expertise.
Through this collaboration, Baker Hughes brings cutting-edge solutions and global experience, while DTEK contributes its established presence and capabilities in Ukraine’s oil and gas sector. This cooperation will help increase domestic gas production, strengthen energy resilience, and unlock the full value of Ukraine’s substantial natural resource base.
The MoU was signed during the annual CERAWeek event in Houston, Texas (U.S.).
At a time when global trade routes are increasingly vulnerable to disruption, developing domestic energy resources within Europe has become more critical than ever. By boosting gas production in Ukraine, the collaboration supports a more secure, reliable, and regionally-sourced energy supply.
Expanding domestic gas output will not only support national stability but also contribute to broader European energy security by reducing dependence on long-distance imports and exposed supply chains.
DTEK Oil&Gas CEO Igor Shchurov said: “DTEK Oil&Gas has significant experience in deep drilling and implementing advanced technologies, and this cooperation will help us take that work further. By combining our operational expertise with Baker Hughes’ global capabilities, we can improve efficiency, expand the use of advanced technologies and unlock further growth in gas production. We are confident this collaboration will strengthen the energy security of both Ukraine and Europe.”
“Baker Hughes has a long and successful history in Ukraine and has helped the country lay the foundation for a secure energy future,” said Tayo Akinokun, senior vice president, global geozones at Baker Hughes. "By working with DTEK Oil&Gas, the largest private gas producer in Ukraine, alongside the country’s state-owned energy companies, we can help unlock new value for Ukraine's natural gas industry and opportunity and security for its people."
DTEK Oil&Gas previously signed a master services agreement with Baker Hughes for the provision of drilling and related services in Ukraine. The agreement covers cooperation on directional drilling, drill bit services and a wide range of high-tech service operations.
