Ukraine's Naftogaz secures LNG deliveries via Germany and Greece
Ukraine's Naftogaz has secured the supply of U.S. liquefied natural gas (LNG) via a terminal in Germany, the state-run oil and gas company said.
The LNG will be sourced from the U.S. and supplied in Germany by TotalEnergies, Naftogaz said.
After it is regasified by Deutsche ReGas, it will then be delivered via pipelines through Poland to Ukraine, it said.
"This new partnership opens up a new reliable import route for Ukraine for the current year," CEO Serhiy Koretskyi said in a statement.
More gas imports via Greece. News reports also announced that gas traders including state-owned Naftogaz will import at least 75 million cubic meters of gas into Ukraine via the 'vertical corridor' from LNG terminals in Greece in March.
Atlantic See LNG Trade, a joint venture between Aktor and Greek gas supplier DEPA, said this month it had signed its first deal to supply U.S. LNG to Ukraine in March.
Ukraine faces its worst wartime energy crisis as its energy sector crumbles under Russian strikes, bitter cold, and accumulated damage.
ExPro said in a report that the gas imports would reach 2.41 mcm per day and come from Greece's Revithoussa LNG terminal at special reduced transport rates.
Naftogaz said earlier in February it had received delivery of almost 100 mcm of U.S. LNG, the first such delivery in 2026.
The company said the LNG was delivered in partnership with Poland's Orlen, and that further deliveries were expected in February or March.
