Russia's LNG exports rose 7% in January
Russia's exports of liquefied natural gas rose 7.3% in January year-on-year to 2.94 million metric tons from 2.74 million tons, preliminary LSEG data showed.
Russia's LNG exports have been held back by U.S. sanctions over Ukraine, notably against the Arctic LNG 2 plant, a project whose work has been hampered by the difficulty of finding buyers for its output.
Still, the launch of supplies from the plant boosted exports year-on-year. Three LNG shipments were recorded from it last month and Russia's overall LNG exports were up 7.7% from December, according to LSEG data.
The same data showed Russian LNG exports to Europe in January rose 15.5% year-on-year to 1.64 million tons.
Novatek's Yamal LNG plant cut total exports in January by 3.5% year-on-year to 1.64 million tons, though that figure was up by 10.8% compared to December exports.
Asia-oriented Sakhalin-2, controlled by Gazprom GAZP.MM, increased exports by 4% year-on-year to 1.0 million tons in January, data showed.
