HPLNG delays commissioning of Chhara LNG import terminal in India

Hindustan Petroleum, a subsidiary of ONGC, has reportedly delayed the commissioning of its Chhara LNG import terminal in Gujarat. The delay is attributed to infrastructure issues, potentially extending operations beyond the monsoon season.
The terminal's jetty and breakwater completion are pending, hindering protection during the monsoon. HPCL LNG, a unit of HPCL, built the terminal, initially a joint venture with SP Ports Private Limited. However, HPCL acquired full ownership in March 2021.
The terminal boasts a 1.2-km jetty and two LNG storage tanks, contributing to India's eighth LNG import facility. India currently relies on seven facilities for LNG imports, including Petronet LNG's Dahej and Kochi terminals, Shell's Hazira terminal, and others.
