Texas rail commissioner advocates tax credits for natural gas industry
Texas Railroad Commissioner Jim Wright said in an op-ed the natural gas industry should get tax credits similar to renewable energy, to protect state infrastructure from extreme weather events such as the February winter storm and reduce gas flaring.
The state and federal government should consider leveling the playing field between renewables and "abundant, affordable and reliable" Texas natural gas, Wright said on Thursday.
"Equalizing these incentives could assist with necessary infrastructure investments that guarantee ample supplies of this important Texas resource are available whenever they are needed," said Wright, who was elected to the Railroad Commission of Texas in November last year.
