Messer opens its largest CO2 plant worldwide in Nanjing, China

SHANGHAI -- The industrial gas specialist Messer held a grand opening ceremony at its new CO₂ recovery plant in Nanjing, China. The new plant, which has a 150,000 tpy capacity, has become Messer's largest CO₂ recovery plant worldwide.

"With the purpose to capture the exhaust CO₂ and bring it to good use for various industries, we hope our new plant will become an outstanding example of how economic interests and conservation of the environment can be harmonized," said Stefan Messer, owner and CEO of Messer Group. "By providing food grade CO₂ gas with highest quality and standards, we will offer our 120-year experience to help our customers increase production, decrease costs and improve product quality."

Nanjing Messer represents the third CO₂ recovery plant of Messer in China after it put two plants on stream respectively in 2014 in Yunnan and in 2015 in Sichuan. With a total capacity of 300,000 ton-per-year, Messer has ranked among the largest CO₂ suppliers in China.

The CO₂ product is available in the state of gas, liquid or dry ice for supply to a variety of expanding markets in east China area, including food, beverage, chemicals, agriculture and manufacturing.

Along with the start-up of the new plant, Messer also put a new gas application technology center into use at its Nanjing plant. "Supported by the global knowledge base, our technical staff will develop tailored solutions for our customers in China," said Stefan Messer.
