German environmental ministry to fund VTG train project to carry LNG

Germany’s Environment Ministry is funding a pilot project by Hamburg-based VTG to build train wagons to carry liquefied natural gas (LNG).
The ministry is spending 244,000 euros ($327,000) on the project involving outfitting wagons to keep the LNG at -162 degrees Celsius, it said today in an e-mailed statement.
LNG is usually transported via ships or trucks.
Two wagons would replace three trucks, the ministry said.
