Two additional solutions to IIoT portfolio

Henkel has further expanded the portfolio of its industrial internet of things (IIoT) solution Loctite Pulse by launching two novel innovative offerings: Smart Rotating Equipment Monitoring and Smart Pipes and Tanks Leak Detection (FIG. 1). These cutting-edge solutions mark another milestone in the company’s commitment to expanding its broad maintenance repair and overhaul (MRO) portfolio and delivering advanced technology to industrial operations worldwide.

FIG. 1. Henkel has further expanded the portfolio of its industrial internet of things (IIoT) solution Loctite Pulse.

Driven by a mission to redefine industrial reliability, Loctite Pulse leverages > 70 yr of industrial brand expertise to offer a comprehensive suite of IIoT solutions. From state-of-the-art monitoring sensor technology to trusted solutions for both static and rotating equipment, the brand empowers industries to stay ahead of plant failures, helping to reduce downtime and enhancing safety and sustainability. The Loctite Pulse app enables the monitoring of critical assets with just a few clicks, significantly facilitating the maintenance of a broad variety of assets without the need for any additional IT implementation. It provides alerts and information about equipment status to effectively support users in prioritizing tasks and scheduling shutdowns.

Key features of the new solutions include:

  • Smart Rotating Equipment Monitoring features a 6-in-1 plug-and-play sensor. Loctite Pulse Smart Rotating Equipment Monitoring offers a holistic approach, enabling simultaneous monitoring of six critical data parameters from vibration to magnetic flux and acoustic emissions. This streamlines the monitoring process while ensuring enhanced performance and precision. The solution has already been launched in the U.S. and will be available across Western Europe in Q3 2024.
  • Smart Pipes and Tanks Leak Detection offers an advanced retrofit monitoring solution for early-stage hydrocarbon leak detection. Powered by carbon nanotube sensor technology, it supports detection of early leakages, helps to reduce downtime and boosts sustainability, even in aging tanks and pipes. The solution is now available in the U.S. and Western Europe and is similar to the existing Loctite Pulse Smart Flange Leak Detection.

The new solutions amplify the connection between Loctite’s IIoT portfolio and Henkel´s MRO core product range. Smart Rotating Equipment Monitoring allows customers to monitor critical assets like pumps, motors and gearboxes, detect issues early, and apply proven solutions from Loctite’s extensive MRO product range to solve the issues.

Similarly, Smart Pipes and Tanks Leak Detection links seamlessly to Loctite’s established composite repair, sealing and coating solutions. This integrated approach ensures that problems are diagnosed while corresponding repair products are being offered from a single source.

The solutions are being implemented in small and medium-sized enterprises from the oil and gas, chemical, and food and beverage industries.

CO2 transfer added to thermoplastic composite pipe portfolio

Strohm, a leading thermoplastic composite pipe (TCP) company, has successfully qualified its first product based on carbon fiber and advanced polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) polymer.

The result of years of development and testing, this breakthrough marks the latest evolution in Strohm’s growth and development journey, raising the bar for pipeline design and performance.

By combining PVDF, a high-performance polymer, with carbon fiber, the company can now offer jumpers and flowlines for use in harsh environment carbon capture and storage (CCS) applications.

With the addition this new PVDF product, Strohm has now completed its materials portfolio for CCS, meaning it can call on the optimum material for each specific project (FIG. 2).

FIG. 2. By combining PVDF, a high-performance polymer, with carbon fiber, Strohm can now offer jumpers and flowlines for use in harsh environment carbon capture and storage (CCS) applications.

As a corrosion-free solution, with a 30-yr design life and a proven smaller carbon footprint compared to steel, it is highly suitable for injecting carbon dioxide (CO2) offshore, both in depleted gas fields and aquifers.

With a long track-record in oil and gas, PVDF is renowned for having a very high chemical resistance and higher temperature capability. It is also unique in that it is the only material of its kind strong enough to manage the high temperatures and high pressures associated with ultra-deepwater hydrocarbon production and provides a high level of natural insulation.

Besides its potential for high CO2 content transfer in CCS applications, Strohm’s new TCP product has the potential to be a gamechanger for the deepwater flowline and riser market in the offshore energy industry. It also concludes an important step in developing and qualifying TCP risers for use in challenging ultra-deepwater environments.

It is also 100% recyclable.

New gas, flow and moisture sensor technologies

Energy technology company Baker Hughes has launched three gas, flow and moisture measurement sensor technologies designed to improve safety performance and drive productivity in hydrogen (H2) and other applications across energy and industrial sectors (FIG. 3).

FIG. 3. Baker Hughes’ new Panametrics solutions offer advanced levels of accuracy, reliability and durability.

Building on the drive for greater levels of accuracy across critical measurements and designed to offer long-term stability in harsh environments, Baker Hughes’ three new Panametrics solutions offer advanced levels of accuracy, reliability and durability:

  • XMTCpro: With electrolyzer production increasing and manufacturers driving improved safety performance to ensure H2 and oxygen concentrations are below explosive limits, the XMTCpro provides customers with advanced levels of reliability and accuracy when monitoring gas concentration. Featuring real-time error detection and enhanced signal measurement for fast response in a thermal conductivity-based binary gas analyzer, the safety integrity level (SIL)-certified XMTCpro is contamination-resistant by design, requiring minimal maintenance. This makes it ideal for widescale adoption across harsh-environment, industrial applications.
  • HygroPro XP: Designed to protect customers from the product quality-related impact of the presence of trace moisture across oil and gas and industrial applications, the HygroPro XP can quickly and accurately measure moisture in gases and hydrocarbon liquids across a wide dew point range. This loop-powered transmitter features a compact explosion-proof enclosure, live temperature and pressure sensors and HART communication enabling connection between intelligent field instruments. The HygroPro XP can be used across H2 transportation, storage, end use and production applications, including accurately measuring trace moisture in electrolyzer production.
  • T5MAX Transducer: With energy and industrial sectors driving greater pipeline efficiency and productivity, the T5MAX Transducer’s enhanced signal strength (four times stronger than the T5 Transducer) enables a step change in ultrasonic flowmeter performance across challenging gas flow measurement applications, including H2. In low-flowrate applications, where accurate measurements are difficult to capture, the stronger signal provides customers with a longer flow path length, and therefore greater accuracy. Customers following the World Bank GFMR global gas flaring guidelines are already placing advance orders to adhere to zero routine flaring standards, resulting in extremely low flowrates.

Baker Hughes’ new measurement sensor technologies can be deployed by customers in sectors including oil and gas, H2, metals, chemicals, biogas, power generation, CCUS and others.
