GTL technology opportunities and applications are shifting alongside changing market dynamics. The third annual Gas-to-Liquids (GTL) Technology Forum, to be held July 29–30 in Houston, Texas, will investigate the technology and market trends at work as alternative GTL solutions are applied in innovative ways and in new locations.

GTL technology shifts with market. The GTL process is being adapted to smaller-scale projects in Central Asia and the US, where natural gas reserves are abundant, but may be stranded or flared due to a lack of existing infrastructure to process associated gas.

The World Bank estimates that over 150 Bcm of natural gas are flared or vented annually, an amount worth approximately $30.6 B and equivalent to 25% of US gas consumption, or 30% of EU gas consumption per year.

Meanwhile, traditional GTL is still finding applications in places such as Nigeria, where Chevron started up its 33-Mbpd Escravos project in the second half of 2014, and Turkmenistan, where two large-scale GTL projects are in the works.

At the GTL Technology Forum 2015, solutions will be discussed and perspectives presented on how best to manage liquids extraction from marginalized, conventional and associated natural gas reserves, with a focus on the growing trend of smaller-scale and modular processing facilities.

2015 program and schedule. The 2015 conference agenda is assembled by the GTL Technology Forum’s esteemed advisory board. Participants include CompactGTL, ConocoPhillips, Gas Technology Institute, Haldor Topsoe, Kinetics Process Improvements, Pentair Separation Systems, Primus Green Energy, Sasol, Velocys and others.

Speakers and attendees at the first and second annual GTL Technology Forum shared knowledge on gas processing technology developments, project economics and business challenges. The previous events drew hundreds of attendees from more than 100 companies in more than 14 countries.

At GTL Technology Forum 2015, speakers will discuss new developments in syngas, non-Fischer Tropsch technology, small-scale GTL, catalysts, modular construction, emerging technology and future uses for GTL fuels, catalysts, modular construction and other topics.

Jeff McDaniel, commercial director of Velocys, will open the forum with a keynote address on why smaller-scale GTL still makes sense in a low-oil-price world. These modular plants offer a way to monetize shale gas in North America and to bring stranded, associated or undervalued gas to market.

Networking lunches and refreshment breaks in the exhibit space will allow delegates to discuss business strategies over coffee and desserts, and to learn more about the technology and data management solutions offered by conference exhibitors.
