EnviTec Biogas begins first feed-in of new biogas and gas upgrading plant in Italy
The newly completed biogas and gas upgrading plant in Soncino near Cremona, Italy, is feeding 237 Nm³/h (250 Sm³/h) of biomethane into the public gas grid as of today. “This is a reason to celebrate together with our long-standing customer, the agribusiness entrepreneur Dr. Francesco Avogadri,” says Mario Della Bella, Managing Director of EnviTec Biogas S.r.l. in Verona.
Avogadri has been relying on the expertise of EnviTec Biogas Italy since the construction of its first biogas plant in 2009. “After more than 15 years in the Italian market, we enjoy a lasting reputation as the only fully integrated biogas plant manufacturer and service provider,” Della Bella continues.
The EnviTec Biogas plant, tailored to the company Azienda Avogadri, is designed for feeding with pig slurry and catch crops. “EnviTec built the entire biogas plant, including biomass pre-treatment, anaerobic digestion and oxygen generation. The complete EnviThan biogas upgrading system was also designed and built by EnviTec, based on over 10 years of experience and development of three-stage membrane technology; it has been assembled at the site in Saerbeck and installed in Italy after factory testing,” adds Gianluca Visconti, Sales Manager at the Italian branch. In addition to pure pig breeding activities, the EnviTec customer grows a large proportion of the feed for its animals. In order to reduce carbon emissions from the production cycle, the company is gradually transitioning from the use of fossil fuels to renewable energy sources.
Other Italian customers are also focusing on eco-efficiency and environmental protection. “At present, we have three more projects underway,” explains branch manager Della Bella. For Azienda Agricola F.lli Scotti, the construction of a 426 Nm³/h (450 Sm³/h) EnviThan plant is actually being completed at the home site in Saerbeck, Germany.
Another project will be carried out in Istia d’Omrone, near Grosseto. “Here we are expanding an existing EnviTec biogas plant with a gas upgrading system and a new CHP unit,” says Della Bella. An existing plant is also being expanded in Sermide, Province of Mantua. Here, EnviTec Biogas is taking on work on a gas-tight final storage unit, a new feeding system with substrate pretreatment, as well as the renovation of the entire existing plant and subsequent service.
With the extension of the so-called PNRR (National Recovery and Resilience Plan), Italy’s biomethane market is expected to move closer to its defined targets. In addition, new support schemes are expected in the near future. With its broad portfolio and many years of expertise, EnviTec Biogas is well positioned to respond effectively to a wide range of project and market situations and to continue growing alongside the market.
