OHL Gutermuth supplies special valve for sulfur recovery

  • Innovative 4-way valve for sulfur recovery unit (SRU) applications

The valve expert OHL Gutermuth has developed a valve that is specially designed for use in SRU applications. The automated OHL 4-way valve CDM can also be used in systems that utilize SmartSulf® technology to achieve a sulfur recovery rate of up to 99.7 %.

Because of the presence of hydrogen sulfide and sulfur dioxide, the processes in sulfur recovery units are highly complex and require valves that are able to withstand extreme conditions. The OHL 4-way valve CDM incorporates properties that are important for use in toxic, sulfurous and corrosive processes and provides a fail-safe solution for all common operations.

The OHL 4-way valve CDM meets the strict requirements of tightness class IV-V ISO 5208 D and is available up to valve size 40 in. Resistance to high temperatures of up to +450°C (higher temperatures on request) and compliance with the highest safety standards guarantee reliability and safety.

SmartSulf® technology. SmartSulf® is a sulfur recovery technology based on the Claus process, but does not require a tail gas treatment unit (TGTU) and replaces traditional sulfur recovery with a more compact solution. Depending on the type of plant, a sulfur recovery rate of up to 99.7% can thus be achieved.

The CDM 4-way valve developed by OHL is already in use in numerous reference plants worldwide using SmartSulf systems. In these processes, the OHL CDM 4-way valve is installed directly upstream and downstream of the hot gas reactor and requires only minimal monitoring as a result of its automation.

Experts in natural gas desulfurization. Since the 1970s, OHL Gutermuth has been supplying the world’s largest gas plants with a variety of shut-off valves for use in Claus plants and processes. Thanks to their outstanding robustness and durability, these special valves for natural gas desulfurization and gas purification have proven their worth time and time again. Many of the valves have been in use ever since the plants were built and only now, 55 years later, are they gradually being replaced or modernized.

Promoting climate-friendly technologies. With the OHL 4-way valve CDM, the industrial valves expert is contributing to process solutions that facilitate a more environmentally friendly sulfur recovery.

Continuous developments to enhance innovation and sustainability are an integral part of OHL Gutermuth’s corporate DNA. OHL Gutermuth has provided and supported the SmartSulf technology right from the very start. OHL Gutermuth is always happy to provide expert advice on individual applications of the OHL CDM 4-way valve.
