BAKU (Reuters) - British oil major BP, which operates a number of oil and gas fields in Azerbaijan, plans no maintenance shutdowns of platforms there this year and intends to advance with new projects, BP's regional president told Reuters. "There aren't any turnarounds planned for this year. I think there are some planned for 2019," Gary Jones, BP's head for Azerbaijan, Georgia and Turkey, said.

BERLIN (Reuters) - The planned Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline connecting Germany and Russia poses no threat to Europe's energy security, Chancellor Angela Merkel said on Friday, publicly disagreeing with her Polish counterpart. Poland, Ukraine and Baltic states fear the pipeline to be laid under the Baltic Sea would increase Europe's dependence on Russian gas and could cut off Ukraine - still fighting a conflict with Russian-backed separatists - from gas transit fees.
Greece gets two binding bids in gas grid sale

ATHENS (Reuters) - Greece has received two binding bids for a 66 percent stake in its gas grid operator DESFA, the Greek privatisation agency (HRADF) said on Friday, a sale that is a key condition of the country's international bailout. The agency said bids were submitted by a consortium of Italy's Snam, Spain's Enagas Internacional and Belgium's Fluxys, and a consortium of Spain's Regasificadora del Noroeste (Reganosa), Romania's Transgaz and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD).
Wood wins new contract delivering mega-project for Saudi Aramco

Wood has secured a new multi-million dollar, five-year contract to support Saudi Aramco in the delivery of one of its mega-projects in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Engineering and project management services to develop the Marjan oil field in the state’s eastern province will be provided under the contract, which is effective immediately. The front end engineering design (FEED), major increment and overall project management consultancy will be executed from Wood’s Reading UK, Khobar, Saudi Arabia and India offices.

The United States had 341.1 Tcf of natural gas proved reserves as of the end of 2016, an increase of 5% from 2015, according to EIA’s recently released U.S. Crude Oil and Natural Gas Proved Reserves report. U.S. crude oil and lease condensate proved reserves remained virtually unchanged from their 2015 level, at 35.2 billion barrels.

EIA estimates that U.S. energy-related carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions declined by 861 million metric tons (14%) from 2005 to 2017. In the latest Short-Term Energy Outlook, EIA projects that CO2 emissions will rise 1.8%, from 5,143 million metric tons in 2017 to 5,237 million metric tons in 2018, then remain virtually unchanged in 2019. In 2019, energy-related CO2 emissions will be about 13% lower than 2005 levels.

Siemens received an order from North American pipeline operator, Nova Gas Transmission Ltd. (NGTL), a wholly owned subsidiary of TransCanada Corporation, to supply a gas turbine-driven compressor train for the Winchell Lake Compressor Station in Alberta, Canada. The turbo compressor train will be a critical part of the NGTL pipeline expansion to transport natural gas to export markets. Commercial operation is expected to begin in the fourth quarter of 2019.
